The best way of realizing content centric business applications
Finland: 90,000 users from different public offices spread all over the country want to access and work with important documents and cases of many kinds.
London, New York, Hong Kong: 1,500 highly qualified investment bankers collaborate on complicated hot deals with thousands of documents.
Germany: Over 20 banks have their non core business processes handled by an external agency yet retain full control.
What do all these cases have in common? They all use WeWebU OpenWorkdesk as solid ground for their content centric business applications also known as Composite Content Applications (CCAs) in their private clouds.
Since OpenWorkdesk requires no installation on the client side users can access their applications literally from everywhere. With Zero-Install Desktop Integration they can work directly on documents from the underlying ECM systems without the need to deal with complicated ECM terms. Yet the ECM systems have full control! Advanced Document Viewing quickly displays every document, regardless of format, size or origin through a common interface and automatically generates thumbnail pictures to facilitate the identification of documents when included in hit lists.
WeWebU OpenWorkdesk is the first choice of many organizations for transactional content management where maximum throughput and efficiency are key requirements. Although it comes with a pure web front-end it is as user friendly as a fat client: Grab & Drag allows the user to resize portions of the screen by simply grabbing a separator and drag it to the desired position. Drag & Drop of documents directly into OpenWorkdesk facilitates adding documents as well as auto-completion of drop-down lists or the auto-opening of the viewer with the newly added document. The pleasant user experience is completed by a folder tree that opens and closes smoothly as well as a hit list that loads pages dynamically, allows in-line editing of metadata, the reordering of columns, and the display of thumbnail previews of documents. At the same time OpenWorkdesk is compliant with section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act which means that persons who are visually impaired can use it without restrictions.
The main modules Search and Retrieval, eFile Management and Business Process Management as well as all other functions and features are highly configurable via a comfortable tool. Thus, together with its powerful role management, OpenWorkdesk allows every user group access to tailor made applications uniquely designed to best fits its needs and enhancing users’ productivity – without programming. For example the Human Resources department works with a specialized employee dossier and related searches, whereas in Accounts Payables, an application for invoice verification is used. Yet all user groups and applications use the same underlying system with the benefits and savings of a central system. Multi tenancy pushes this concept even further and allows cloud service providers to offer closely similar applications to a multitude of their clients in a software as a service (SaaS) model.
Using the remote control functionality, OpenWorkdesk applications can be integrated tightly and more easily into other applications, like ERP or CRM systems or other line-of-business applications: A click in the customer profile in the CRM system directly opens the respective customer file in WeWebU OpenWorkdesk, for example.
With a set of native adapters together with an abstraction layer, OpenWorkdesk applications can work on top of different ECM systems and be migrated easily from the ECM system of one vendor to a different one. In addition, CMIS the powerful open standard for Enterprise Content Management is fully supported and this takes the concept even further by allowing the same application to run on all CMIS compliant ECM repositories, e.g. Alfresco, IBM, FileNet, EMC Documentum and Open Text.
OpenWorkdesk supports IBM FileNet P8 business process management natively. The support of the Activiti process engine as an Open Source alternative for BPM is planned.
WeWebU OpenWorkdesk with CMIS is the Open Source alternative for building composite content applications (CCAs) and for vertical document solutions, as well as for rapid integration. There is one WeWebU OpenWorkdesk edition available for every business case, depending on how comprehensive the desired solution would need to be and how much support is required.
