Advanced Document Viewing

Unified Viewing for all document types from all repositories

Most document centric business applications have to deal with different document types. Until today such applications had to be integrated with different viewers resulting in a suboptimal user experience or facing performance issues especially when dealing with large documents coming from different sources.

WeWebU OpenWorkdesk Advanced Document Viewing is a comprehensive, Java-based viewing suite. It is tightly integrated into WeWebU OpenWorkdesk and unifies the viewing for all document types from every repository that OpenWorkdesk supports.

The combination of the powerful Advanced Document Viewer and the Advanced Document Processing Server enables documents of literally every document type to be always displayed consistently. Therefore TIFF, PDF, PDF/A, HTML, XML, MS Office and Open Office documents, IBM AFP and MO:DCA, as well as many other image and document types are shown in exactly the same way. OpenWorkdesk Advanced Document Viewing even allows very large documents to be displayed quickly, thanks to its intelligent memory management and rendering architecture.

The ability to attach annotations (using text and/or graphic objects) to a document for the benefit of illustration, to highlight or even hide parts of documents makes collaboration more efficient. Since the original document remains unaltered, legal compliance is achieved. For working with text-based documents, OpenWorkdesk Advanced Document Viewer provides standardized text retrieval functionalities and easy-to-use copy functions to copy text to the Windows clipboard.

A thumbnail list in the viewer facilitates the navigation in large documents whereas a hover lens enlarges parts of a page for better readability. If during the scan process a page was scanned in the wrong orientation or the order of pages was mixed up the user can correct these mistakes by rotating pages or reordering them without rescanning. It is even possible to remove unwanted pages or split a document in several parts.

OpenWorkdesk Advanced Document Processing is the server-side component of Advanced Document Viewing. It is used to automatically convert document types that can not directly be displayed in the viewer. To this end it invokes the appropriate application, e.g. MS Office or OpenOffice. Hence all document types can be displayed and annotations can be attached in the same way. Furthermore, the Advanced Document Processing Server generates thumbnails of all types of documents for display in the hit lists of OpenWorkdesk.
